“Within her work, the family functions as a porous system where influence moves in multiple directions simultaneously, where mothers pick up habits from their daughters just as much as the reverse.”

Myriam Jacob-Allard is an interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker whose work is steeped in matrilineal storytelling and collective memory. Eve Rogers visited Jacob-Allard in her studio, entering a space where the floor was alive with animatronic domestic objects, the movements of which originate in Jacob-Allard’s family’s extensive home-video archive. Rogers reflects on a pragmatic maternal tendency to resist waste, bodies borrowing movements from each other, and the family stories that are retold and reshaped over a lifetime.
